eBay sends an ItemUnsold notification to a subscribing seller when an auction listing ends with no winning bidder or when a fixed-price listing ends with no sale(s).
The typical flow of events is:
- A third party subscribes to the ItemUnsold notification on behalf of a seller.
- An auction listing ends without a winning bidder or a fixed-price listing ends without any sale(s).
- eBay sends the ItemUnsold notification to the third party.
For a fixed-price listing, the ItemUnsold notification will only be sent if the listing ends with zero sales. To determne if a fixed-price listing had any sales, sellers can call GetItem and look at the Item.SellingStatus.QuantitySold (single variation) or Variation.SellingStatus.QuantitySold (multiple variations) fields. If QuantitySold is '1' or greater, the ItemUnsold notification will not be sent when the listing ends.

The data fields returned by the ItemUnsold notification are the same as those returned by GetItemResponse with default details requested. Refer to the GetItem call reference documentation for additional information.
